Dr. Horrible is here!!!

If you are a fan of Joss Whedon (of Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Serenity-fame) or are a fan of cheesy comedy musicals, you need to watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog! It stars Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion & Felicia Day and it’s awesome! I watched parts 1 & 2 this morning and by the end of 1 I had tears rolling down my cheeks! There’s one more part to come which is landing on Saturday but it’s worth the wait :)

Day 20 – Murder scene of a Mighty Mouse

Movies, Music & Books

•July 15, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Today the annoying work experience child we have with us deemed me ‘disgraceful’ for not owning a console. Not only did this rile me up into wanting to grab him by the shirt and shake him while screaming ‘I’ve been playing games since before you were born so you can take your consoles and f**k right off!’, it made me think about why computer games aren’t really featuring much in my mind at the moment.

I seem to be like a lot of people who go through ‘phases’ where these things are concerned. For a couple of months I’ll want all the games available to me and then suddenly, they won’t hold any interest for me any more. I’m in one of those stages right now, but rather than fixating on one of the interests in the title, I’m forsaking games for all three.

It’s summer. It’s easy to get drawn into the big blockbuster-fest that comes along with the season so I’m going with the flow, although saying that, I’m not really interested in Wall.E and I’ll only go and see Kung Fu Panda if I have nothing to do. The Dark Knight & Hellboy 2 are the two movies that I cannot wait to see! I’m a big fan of comic book/ graphic novel movies and even if they’re crap (Daredevil!), you can guarantee I’ll love them! I really can’t wait for Watchmen next year either :D

I’ve also been on a bit of a book binge too. I’ve bought and (re)read Watchmen, and that’s just one of a host of books I want to get and read. I was checking out my stats the other day and a couple of people came here looking for ‘explanation of Glamorama’ which now has made me want to reread it, finally finish American Psycho and possibly write a book review for each them if I can. I also want Rules of Attraction (yes, I’m a Bret Easton Ellis fan), Alice in Wonderland & Alice Through The Looking Glass. I’ve read the latter two but not for years!

Now, this year has definitely been a year for new music for me. My wonderful friends in the US have introduced me to a number of bands who I’ve either never heard of or, just never paid that much attention to. If you have time and like chilled out/emo stuff, you should check out To Have Heroes, Death Cab for Cutie and Jason Manns. They’re all great IMHO. Plus Kate Voegele, kill hannah and  New Found Glory (I’ve known about them for years but never listened to them in the volume I have this year). And as you know in the last week I’ve had my live BFS album come through which is great and always puts a smile on my face.

So yeah, that’s what I’m interested in at the moment. Sod the annoying W.E. child, I have better things to spend my money on! (Although saying all that, the surfboard will be the next thing I buy ;) )

Day 19 – I decided today should be a happy day, therefore I wore my happy shoes to and from work :)

Day 15 – I got mail again! :D This time my Bowling for Soup ‘Home Delivery’ DVD Package. The full list of contents: T-shirt, trucker/baseball cap, drinks cup, poster (which isn’t show cos it’s a bit crap), messenger bag, 2 DVDs of the Get Happy Tour show in Manchester last October (the one I went to) with backstange footage on one and commentary by the band on the other and a CD of the whole show too. It’s so awesome to re-live that night and you can also see us a couple of times on there too!

Day 16 – This weekend I went to Leeds with my 2 BFFs, so I straightened my hair for the occasion.

Day 17 -Ok, I have to admit something. I failed :( I was so pre-occupied with getting home and then chilling out to try and stop my back from aching I totally forgot to take a photo for today. Damn my staying out til 3.30am and dancing all night long. I will make up for it however some time in the near future!

Day 18 – I couldn’t have survived work today with my post-its.

Day 12 – there was a little girl, who had a little curl…. (I didn’t fake this, it was hanging down like it all day and really p*ssing me off!)

Day 13 – Sailing Day! And also the only time my co-workers or friends will ever see me in white footwear!!

Day 14 – Day after sailing. I carted these around all day after forgetting to put sunblock on :s

Project:365 – an update

I haven’t forgotten about this and I have been taking pictures daily, I just don’t seem to have the time to put them up on here! I’m going to endeavor to put up the last few days tonight and then the next 2 days on Sunday!

So in a nutshell, there will be more!!!

Issues & Sailing

•July 10, 2008 • 2 Comments

Yep, having serious issues trying to actually get online in an evening to update! (I will attempt to come on later tonight to post up the latest Project:365 entries!) Last night in particular as yesterday was Teambuilding Day! The company organises several days (supposedly every year although it didn’t happen last year) where people from both sites come together, work as a team to score points on various activites and hopefully go home at the end of the day knowing a few more people and having had a great time. The year before last we went to an activity centre nearby drove land rovers (both blindfolded and not), did some shooting, archery, quad biking and a couple of team tasks.

This year, it was Sailing on Windermere. Awesome is the word for it. 6 teams of 6 people on 6 boats, all trying to learn how to sail before competing in a couple of races in the afternoon. Unfortunately for us, the morning was glorious sunshine and we only got about 30mins proper sailing in before the wind completely dropped. So Plan B was put into action in the form of a treasure hunt. Our instructor was ace and as he couldn’t be bothered with us sailing all the way up to Bowness gave us half the answers :) We did really well on the 2 tasks – man overboard (which we did in about 1.5 mins vs the 6 min average time) and putting the sails up on our own with no help from the instructor (which we did in about 6 mins vs the 15 min average time).

We anchored for lunch and in the afternoon put our sailing skills to the test. Our boat (due to our natural affinity for sailing by the looks) came 2nd & 3rd and overall for the day came joint 1st with 2 other teams! We had a fantastic time and even Lis who has an avid fear of water had a great time :D

I’d definitely recommend it to anyone but if you’re going with a big group – be prepared to be competitive and to work really hard ;)

Project:365 – Days 10 & 11

Day 10 – it rained quite a bit.

Day 11 – Strawberry Pancakes mug. Check. Amaretto coffee. Check. Enough sugar to kill a small child. Check :)

Drawing – It’s finally coloured!

•July 7, 2008 • 2 Comments

I finally coloured the picture I drew a few weeks back – I hand drew her but then coloured using Photoshop CS2:

Her name’s Alex and she’s a character from a story one of my friends wrote. Alex has 2 other friends – Jamie & Elliot – and I’m hoping to draw them too. This is first out of their Halloween costumes. I’ll be drawing them one by one and finally incorporating them all into one picture of the three girls.
